I wasen't much of a cricket fan apart from watching an India Pakistan match, World Cup or IPL finals. When I did start watching some matches this IPL season, out comes the IPL spot fixing controversy. Apart from being in the media and all the events that I have been covering surrounding the events, with the IPL finals in Kolkata and Jagmohan Dalmiya taking over as BCCI President for now, I have just been bombarded with a whole lot of cricket than I imagined. Each day came with a new development and it seems to continue. Now with Dhoni's stake in Rhiti Sports being questioned apart from others like Anil Kumble, what's left for people to believe there is nothing more to cricket than what they see on the field?
Cricket is a religion in our country and lest faith be shaken, what happens to those who worship the sport? BCCI is a private body and some wonder, why the fuss when there are more important issues like the naxal attack in Chattisgarh among others that should entail more time for serious discussion. But who made cricket a region? The people of the country who take an off from work to watch a World Cup final, who shell out any amount of money to buy a IPL final's ticket. So the people of the country do deserve an answer, irrespective of the fact that the BCCI board members decide whether N Srinivasan should have stayed or stepped down and not the people of India.
And will cricket really be cleaned now that there is a new BCCI President? What happens to other questions that need to be asked and answers that need to be given? Is it just the media pressure that will open the pandora's box and then be questioned why a trial by media is taking place? There are big fish in the sea and minds like ours don't work the way they do. But we as citizens of the country certainly have a right to question and hope that faith is restored and cricket remains a religion that binds the hearts of those who love the game.
